Improving the talent and potential of all our young people

Shaun Sibley

Shaun retired from full time employment in March 2017. He has held two careers. A metallurgist by education from Leeds University, he embarked upon a career spanning 27 years with Foseco Plc being the CEO of the UK operating company, Chairman of overseas subsidiaries and Marketing Director for all European businesses. During this period he travelled the globe extensively. A key focus was the development of people, products and services; education and training being fundamental to the success of the organisation.

He then changed career and spent 11 years running a UK and Australian subsidiary of an American audiobook publisher, growing the UK business and grass-rooting the Australian business. A key feature of this role was developing people and skill sets to further growth, ending up as the UK's and Australia's largest independent audiobook publisher.

Throughout his career Shaun has been a Change Manager – setting the vision and then evolving the organisation to realise the vision by simple steps. Global change continues at a pace and organisations need to absorb and utilise change positively. He has a philosophy that says if he doesn’t learn something new each day then the day has been wasted.

He has served on the Ironbridge Gorge Museum Birmingham Trust ending as Chairman. He has acted a student mentor at Coventry University for students with start up enterprises. Since retiring he has mentored a student for Nottingham Trent University with a novel publishing enterprise and has also started up a specialty Publishing Business of his own.

He is married with two boys, both products of state education and his wife is a retired primary school teacher, having held the SEN role at number of schools.  He has a passion for classic cars and is currently restoring a car of his own, was a keen cricketer and now loves to watch the game at all levels.  Plays golf and has just started to learn playing the saxophone.

He has joined the trust because of his strong belief in education and the passion that he saw in the senior management team at CAT to pursue the goal of every child in their care to realise their optimum ability. He believes that his experience of change and complexity will support CAT as it grows as a leading Academy Trust delivering sustainable education.
